Armenia: Ministry of Justice announces PDPA ban on VisaMetric's personal data processing

The Ministry of Justice announced, on 3 April 2018, that the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data Protection ('PDPA'), had barred VisaMetric LLC from collecting or transferring any personal data whilst it carries out an inspection of its personal data processing practices. The PDPA's inspection was initiated, on 30 March 2018, after VisaMetric submitted a notice to the PDPA of their intention to develop biometric personal data processing. The PDPA has the authority to carry out the inspection under Article 20 of the Law of 13 June 2016 No. 49-ZR About Personal Data Protection, and will seek to collect information necessary to verify VisaMetric's compliance.
