Argentina: AAIP announces ratification of Convention 108+

The Argentinian data protection authority ('AAIP') announced, on 18 April 2022, that the Director of the AAIP, Beatriz Anchorena, had deposited the instrument to ratify the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data ('Convention 108+'), following its signature by the President of Argentina. In particular, the AAIP noted that Argentina is the 23rd country to ratify Convention 108+ and the second in Latin America.

Moreover, Anchorena specified that the adhesion to Convention 108+ is crucial because the AAIP privacy agenda is expanding in the context of exponential technological transformations, such as the development of artificial intelligence ('AI') and biometric data-based identity recognition.
