African Bodies: AU launches public consultation on digital transformation strategy

The African Union ('AU') announced, on 26 October 2019, that the African ministries responsible for communication, information, and communication technologies ('the Ministries') have adopted the 2019 Sharm El-Sheikh declaration, launching a public online consultation on the African Digital Transformation Strategy ('DTS'). In particular, the AU outlined that the Ministries called for member states to, among other things, accelerate the ratification of the African Union Convention on Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection and establish a working group on artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, the AU highlighted that the DTS is open to online contributions until 8 November 2019, and that the Ministries requested that the AU Commission finalise the document by 11 November 2019, in order to submit it for consideration and adoption at the AU summit in January 2020.
