UAE: ADMO announces the establishment of the AIATC

On January 22, 2024, the Abu Dhabi Media Office (ADMO) announced that the UAE President had issued a law establishing the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC). In particular, the ADMO elaborated that the AIATC will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and strategies related to research, infrastructure, and investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology in Abu Dhabi.

What will be the objectives of the AIATC?

In particular, the ADMO highlighted the following aims of the AIATC:

  • develop financing, investment, and research plans for AI and advanced technology in collaboration with local and international partners;
  • foster Abu Dhabi's strategy to transform the emirate into a hub for investments, partnerships, and expertise in AI and advanced technology;
  • identify investment priorities and mechanisms for research and development in AI and advanced technology; and
  • initiate, implement, and activate investment and research initiatives in AI and advanced technology and develop supporting digital infrastructure.

Furthermore, the ADMO also announced that the UAE President issued a resolution appointing members of the new AIATC and noted that it would be chaired by Tahnoun bin Zayed, with Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed as Vice Chairman.
