Sri Lanka: Cabinet of Ministers approves proposals for cybersecurity bills

The Department of Government Information published, on 11 October 2021, the Cabinet of Minister's decision to approve the development of two cybersecurity laws. In particular, the Cabinet approved the drafting of a bill for a Defence Cyber Commands Act, which aims to address criminal and anti-social activities conducted in cyberspaces and to ensure national security by establishing cyber protection units at an institutional level.

Furthermore, the Cabinet also approved the formulation of a draft bill for the purpose of imposing cyber protection laws. More specifically, the draft bill would provide for a cyber protection framework, in addition to establishing a Sri Lanka Cyber Protection Agency and specific requirements for protecting key infrastructure facilities and preventing risk activities.
