Senegal: CDP publishes regulation on retention periods

The Senegalese data protection authority ('CDP') announced, on 11 January 2022, that it had issued, on 30 December 2021, the General Deliberation No. 2021-558/CDP of the Personal Data Protection Commission Relating to the Duration of Conservation of Personal Data ('the Regulation'). In particular, the Regulation sets out retention periods applicable to the following categories of data:

  • employee data;
  • video surveillance, including workplaces and homes of individuals;
  • logs of entry into and exit from the workplace and private homes;
  • magnetic access passes;
  • vehicle geolocation;
  • commercial and marketing records; and
  • customer data of banks and insurance companies.
