Saarland: Saarland Commissioner publishes annual reports on data protection and freedom of information

The State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Saarland published, on 16 April 2021, the activity reports on the areas of data protection and freedom of information. In particular, the State Commissioner's data protection report highlights the accelaration of digital transformation in services and processes brought forward by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the activities it undertook during this time to ensure compliance from different sectors with data protection, such as the tracing application that was implemented in Germany, and the advice given to businesses for the collection of data for tracking purposes. Similarly, the freedom of information report showcases the initiatives of the State Commissioner to ensure access to information for citizens, with particular focus on access to health information and ensuring transparency in government functions by advising and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to implement processes to enable access to information.
