International: INTERPOL publishes report warning of rising online crime in Africa

The International Criminal Police Organisation ('INTERPOL') published, on 14 August 2020, a report ('the Report') on online organised crime in Africa, warning that it presents a serious security issue for law enforcement. In particular, the Report outlines that malware incidents are increasingly prevalent across Africa and that many countries in Africa lack comprehensive policies to combat cybercrime, adding that in January 2020 only 14 of 55 members of the African Union had signed its Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, which needs to be ratified by at least 15 members before it can enter into force.
