Tunisia: Privacy law to be updated 'to meet international standards'

The Tunisian data protection authority (DPA) - l'Instance Nationale de Protection des Données à Caractère Personnel – will discuss amendments to the Tunisian Data Protection Act (Law No. 2004-63) on 28 and 29 June 2012.

The Act (Law No. 2004-63), which came into effect on 27 July 2004, is the countryʼns first general privacy legislation.

A spokesperson from the DPA told DataGuidance that the legislation now requires updating, as "the majority of the provisions do not meet international standards".

The DPA also stated that the overall aim of the meeting is to enable them to better fulfil their mission and to identify any weaknesses and gaps that exist in the current law.
