Iran: MICEX announces deliberations on combating the dissemination of false information online

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ('MICEX') announced, on 30 September 2020, that the members of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace had approved a document on combating the dissemination of false information and news online, as well as deliberated on the preparation of a bill on the same. In particular, MICEX noted that this bill is likely to be prepared within three months and submitted to the Islamic Consultative Assembly for approval and that it will include provisions on the obligation of platforms to provide mechanisms and effective procedures for identifying, deleting, and rectifying false information and news.
