Estonia: DPI issues guidelines on processing of content of employees' email inboxes
The Data Protection Inspectorate (DPI) announced, on June 16, 2023, the publication of guidelines addressed to employers, explaining how the content of an employee's email inbox can be processed. In particular, the DPI noted that the guidelines recommend, among other things:
- to close email inboxes immediately after the end of the employment relationship;
- to regulate in advance the conditions for processing the content of an email inbox; and
- that under no circumstances should an employee's private correspondence be opened or read.
