Chile: Ministry announces public sector AI guidelines

On December 14, 2023, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation published the 'Guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence tools in the public sector.' In particular, the guidelines provide recommendations to promote the responsible use of tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector. The guidelines provide input on four categories including:

  • people-centered AI;

  • transparency and explainability;

  • privacy and data use; and

  • other measures.

Regarding other measures, the guidelines recommend that within the needs and possibilities of each service, organizations should ensure the training of its officials and other public servants of its organization for the adequate adoption of tools based on AI systems.

The guidelines will come into effect on January 1, 2024.
