British Columbia: Financial services authority issues guidance for licensees on cryptocurrencies and real estate

The British Columbia Financial Services Authority ('BCFSA') released, on 28 April 2022, guidance for licensees on cryptocurrencies and real estate. In particular, the guidance provides information on, among other things, the associated risks of using cryptocurrencies in real estate, the requirement to protect clients' best interests, and the fact that licensees must be aware of their Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada reporting requirements.
